A shared passion sparks a journey
Spica Technology was born from the curiosity and collaboration of two childhood friends, Anders B. Jensen and Lars Gleesborg. Their fascination with electronics began in their youth, experimenting with wires and gadgets. This shared enthusiasm led them to tinker with old TVs and radios, laying the groundwork for their future endeavors.
After gaining experience in the electronics field, Anders and Lars decided to channel their passion into a venture of their own. In December 1997, they founded Spica Technology, initially operating from a modest 50-square-meter space in Anders’ backyard. Their early projects quickly garnered attention, securing contracts with industry leaders like Vestas and Svendborg Brakes.
Growth through innovation
The early 2000s marked a period of significant growth for Spica Technology. In 2009, Benny Thomsen joined as CEO, bringing a fresh perspective and helping to steer the company toward new opportunities. Under his leadership, Spica Technology expanded its product line and solidified its reputation in the wind turbine industry.
By 2017, Spica had established a sales office in Barcelona and launched an online webshop to provide spare parts for wind turbines. Collaborations with major players like Siemens Gamesa and KK Wind Solutions further cemented Spica Technology’s position in the market.
A turning point in 2017
Over the years, Spica Technology steadily grew, changing locations multiple times before settling at Ørstedsvej 5 in Silkeborg, Denmark in 2009. However, a significant setback occurred in 2017 when Lars Gleesborg, one of the founding members, passed away. This loss hit hard, particularly for Anders, who not only lost his business partner but also his closest friend.
In the same year, Jan Gerber joined as an Advisory Board Executive, a sales office in Barcelona was established, and the webshop, offering FT Technologies and Bachmann electronic spare parts for wind turbines, was launched.
Embracing the future
By 2017, Siemens Gamesa and KK Wind Solutions, among others, had become clients of Spica Technology. Since then, the company has welcomed numerous new clients into its repertoire. Spica Technology’s success was further recognized when it was awarded the title of a successful Danish company in 2020, 2021, and 2022, with 2022 marking the year it received a Børsen Gazelle award.
In the years 2022 and 2023, Spica Technology built new collaborations with companies like Semco Maritime, ProCon, and Vattenfall, setting its position as a dynamic player in the wind power industry. In 2024, Spica moved into larger facilities to embrace the rising need for more space to develop even larger projects.
The journey of childhood friends Anders B. Jensen and Lars Gleesborg, from tinkering with wires and old devices to building a thriving engineering company, is an evidence to their passion, innovation, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
The inspiration behind the name ‘Spica’
The name ‘Spica’ is derived from the brightest star in the constellation Virgo. Historically, Spica has been a symbol of abundance and the harvest, often associated with the Greek goddess Demeter, who represents agriculture and nurturing.
